Preventive care refers to routine health services such as screenings, checkups, and counseling aimed at preventing illness, disease, or other health issues. These services are often covered by insurance without a copay, coinsurance, or deductible. We bill nutrition counseling as part of preventive care.
We are providers with Blue Cross Blue Shield of NC, which offers an overview of coverage. However, your specific plan may vary, so it’s important to verify your coverage before your appointment. When emailing to schedule an appointment, please include your subscriber ID, and we’ll confirm your individual benefits.
Under preventive care benefits, many Aetna plans provide coverage for up to 10 sessions of nutritional counseling aimed at promoting a healthy diet. Additional services may be covered for individuals with conditions such as overweight, obesity, or diabetes, contingent upon appropriate documentation from a primary care provider (PCP).
The majority of UnitedHealthcare plans offer comprehensive coverage for nutritional counseling, typically with minimal or no copayment required.
Plans may provide full coverage for nutrition counseling, often with little to no copay and your deductible will not apply. Number of sessions can vary and we are happy to look into what your plan will cover. For clients not covered, we can provide a superbill. This detailed receipt outlines the services you received, which you can submit to your insurance company to inquire about potential reimbursement.
